Suwannee,
Florida is a small coastal village surrounded
by the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife
Refuge, the Suwannee River, and the Gulf
of Mexico. It is best known for the excellent
fishing and unique tranquility. The town
is built on a web of canals, all leading
to where the river joins the Gulf. This allows
you to watch the mullet jump in the canals
and observe the blue heron and cranes fish
for their dinner, all from your back porch!
The river and wildlife refuge present some
beautiful scenery and wildlife while you're
paddling through the back creeks and reservoirs.
The brackish water and the gulf flats are
full of redfish, trout, and flounder, known
to the fishermen as a fishing "flats slam."
